On March 8th, 2019, Director Straub will be speaking at a Congressional Staff Briefing entitled “Keeping Students Safe: Proven Programs to Prevent School Violence” hosted by Reps. Deutch (D-FL), Rutherford (R-FL), Kilmer (D-WA), and Rogers (R-KY), and sponsored by Sandy Hook Promise and The School Superintendents Association (AASA). Sandy Hook Promise’s goal for this briefing is to educate senior-level Congressional staff on violence prevention programming, examples from education and law enforcement officials on school violence prevention, and perspectives from students and administrators on proven methods for student safety.
Director Straub will set out to answer the most surprising thing learned as it relates to school shootings and what policy recommendations he would make to Congress based on his extensive research on averted school violence. The briefing will be open to press, and will be livestreamed. Please join us in viewing this momentous briefing.
